It's been a couple of weeks since the last blog post, I apologize, again! I really want to try and do this weekly and I will if I can but frankly, we are still getting used to this Lodge Owner gig, and it's gonna take a minute to get in a routine. Spring was here last week then winter came back for a couple of nights and now spring is back! I'm sure we haven't seen the last of winter though, unfortunately. The World Fishing Tour, (Travis Burch and his crew his wife and kids and Steve) were here last week and they had a great event!
Grand Lake, Oklahoma, Tournament Results, Lake Level, Area Info
The fishing was pretty darn good in that event. If you're not familiar with the World Fishing Tour or their format, its a pretty cool deal. Qualifying starts on a Saturday (for most venues) and each day for the next week is a new qualifying day. You pay your entry fee and fish whatever day(s) you can make it. Each day that has at least 3 entries qualifies one team in 5 to Championship Day the following Sunday. If you don't qualify on the day you fish, you can enter the next day or as many days as you want to pay the entry for. There is even a wildcard berth for the team with the most cumulative weight throughout the week that doesn't qualify on a given day. Some teams will enter 4-5 days to try and earn that wildcard berth. It took over 20 pounds every day, except one or two, to qualify for the championship and the eventual winners had 23 and change! You can see all the results and learn more about the WFT at www.fishwft.com
Most of the anglers in the WFT were reporting that most of their fish were being caught on the ole A-Rig..... surprise! LOL! But not all the good ones are being caught on it. Above, left, is the partner of a gentleman that stayed at our place. They won the day that they fished with over 20 pounds, qualifying them for the championship day, and they did not catch them on the rig or jerk bait. They used Spinnerbaits, and jigs as well as some other baits. Fairly shallow. There was one day in which 10 pounds got you in..... I thought, "I can do that" so my partner Kenny Stafford (his first ever tourney) and I threw our money in the pot. As you can see, above right, we couldn't! LOL..... It was good just to get the competitive juices flowing again. Love launches. It may be my favorite part of the day! The lake level has still been hovering around 742.00, that is down slightly from the last report. The water temp when we were out last week was between 48 and 53 depending on where we were.
This week we are full of anglers staying with us that are fishing the Ozark Mountain Team Trail, Big Bite Challenge and the XFL (Xtreme Fishing League)
