Welcome to The Lake Lodge At Grand Lake O' The Cherokees Blog: Great Fishin, Great Friends, 28 Pound Catfish

Riggins loves the pond

Its been a little over a month since the last blog. Sorry about that! Ill try to do better... Fishing has been pretty darn good all spring. Even in the high water. We have had a lot of guests staying with us fishing a lot of different events. I'll list those events and their winning weights so you can see what I'm talking about!

Grand Lake, Oklahoma, Tournament Results, Lake Level, Area Info

Anglers In Action April 6, winners had 23.73.

The MLF Toyota Series event April 11-13 was won by Cole Breeden with a three day total of 62-15! We had two guests that stayed with us make the final day, Ryan Kirkpatrick and Hunter Baughman. Hope to have them back again!

The Nichols Marine Tournament on April 14 was won by a couple familiar names, Mike and Justin McClelland with a total of 22.51.

The Oklahoma Bass Nation HS State Championship 2 day event took 31.53.

The Nebraska Bass Nation held their state qualifier here April 30-May 3 and they filled the place up, cooked out every night and had a great time. The winner was a good friend of ours, Jerry Pape. He had a three day total of 48.69. (picture below) They followed that up with their Nebraska Mr. Bass event (club champions from 2023), won by Mike Obel with15.50.

The Extreme Fishing League had an event May 4 and it took 21.68 to win that one.

And finally the Anglers In Action had another event here May 11. It took 21.65, even in the high dirty water!

Needless to say, fishing continues to be great here on Grand Lake!

All the storms we have had the last couple weeks brought the lake up to 747 ish (5-6 feet up) it is a 745.4 today. They are dropping it pretty fast and there are a lot of floaters out there so be careful. Water temp is in the upper 60's low 70's in most places and dirty up and cleaner down, as you would expect.

We do want to let those that lost loved ones and property in the storms last week, our thoughts are with you and know that we are praying for you!

In the last blog I told you about my trip to the BASS Nation Regional that didn't go so well, fishing wise and boat prop, trailer wheel damage wise.... I have had a chance to fish a couple more events since then, but not in my boat. Turns out what I thought was just a bent prop turned out to be a bent shaft and thus I needed a new lower unit. So, I went non boater in an ABA event April 27 on Big Hill Lake in KS. I really just wanted to get a look at the lake, since I was going to be fishing the Kansas BASS Nation Frank Stong Memorial Scholarship fundraiser the following weekend. I didn't do to well out of the back of the boat, but I did catch a 28 pound catfish! The next weekend I was able to fish the Stong event with long time friend Mark Moody. We hadn't fished together in like 25 years, but we got 2nd the last time we fished together so our hopes were high! LOL This was the 10th annual Frank Stong tourney. I had not missed one. Frank was my mentor and to say that this event means a lot to me, is a huge understatement. We had a great day and pulled off the win with 15.14! Thanks Mark!

This weekend, I'll be back on Big Hill for the ABA Take an Airman fishing event. Service men and women come down from McConnell AFB and hop in the back of our boats. It is always fun and an honor to give back to those that serve!
