Its been a while since the last blog. Sorry about that! Ill try to do better... I said that last time, but I will REALLY try this time! LOL
A lot has gone on since the last blog. The July 4th holiday came and went! There were a bunch of great BIG firework shows around the lake. If you like to fish in the mornings, go boating and swimming during the day, cook out, go to a big firework show every evening starting on the 3rd thru the 6th, sit by the fire pit after that, then Grand Lake and The Lake Lodge at Grand Lake O' the Cherokees is the place to be on the 4th of July weekend!
It wasn't all peaches and cream for the Stewart household though. We had Brett, Nicole, the grandkids Brooks and Emelia, Brie and the Grand dog Riggins, my mom, Val's brother Leon and sister in law Susan as well as good friends Jeff and Karla Waters. We also had a father and son from Texas and a couple guys from Wisconsin here practicing for the BASS Nation Championship that will be here in November. We were supposed to celebrate Brie's Birthday on the 7th, but Riggins got spooked by some fireworks the evening of the 5th and bolted.....
Not really sure what it is about this dog. Val had a bad experience with a dog when she was young so she doesn't really like dogs. We never had a dog when the kids were young, we just really aren't dog people, but....... we LOVE Riggins! So needless to say the mood changed drastically as we searched, posted on FB, walked, drove for miles, walked some more, drove some more etc.... People from everywhere pitched in to post or help look. Friday night came and went, Saturday came and went..... We were informed by Brie that there would be no Birthday celebrating on Sunday, understandably.
I woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday emotionally drained....asking God to please lead Riggins back, or protect him if he doesn't come back, and even questioning why He would let this happen..... I didn't sleep much. Got up early the next morning, Brie's Birthday, that we are not celebrating, and walked a half mile down the road to the dead end, surrounded by woods. I stood there for a half hour, maybe longer just yelling his name and listening....... nothing. I walked back to the lodge, hopped in the truck with Emelia and we drove every road within a three mile radius. We were almost back when Val called crying, I thought oh no..... but they turned out to be tears of joy!
Our neighbor came over and said they think they saw him walking through the woods by their house. Val jumped in with them and they headed down the dead end road. Yes, that same dead end road we all had walked several times and I had walked that morning..... As they crested the hill, there he was! Walking toward the Lodge, up the road. Val got out, and started walking toward the lodge and Riggins, the same dog that does not like to be caught, (he thinks its a game of catch me if you can) walked right up beside her and let her grab his collar!
Riggins checked out fine at the vet, had some scrapes and ticks, was exhausted and hungry, but he was fine and home. I do believe that God has a plan for everything and everyone. We don't always understand the plan or who the plan is meant for. It could be meant for several folks, but for me, I think it was another test of my faith. I prayed for protection and for Riggins to come back. That happened, but the test of faith was that it happened on Gods time which was 36 hours..... not 1 hour like I wanted! Why 36 hours? I don't know, I just have to have faith and believe there is a reason.
I do know this though, it was the BEST birthday present for Brie ever!
Grand Lake, Oklahoma, Tournament Results, Lake Level, Area Info
Fishing has still been pretty darn good. Daytime tournaments have slowed down quite a bit. there are some evening, 3-5 hour, 3 fish tournaments going on and you better have 12 pounds if you want a shot at a check! It took 16 and change last Saturday night! You can still catch them pretty much any way you want. I hear good bags coming deep and good bags coming shallow!
Lake level is 744.3 and the water temps are all in the mid to upper 80's.
