Well winter arrived yesterday with a little snow, ice and temps in the 30's and 20's overnight, and while the next couple days aren't looking too bad, the weekend and all next week are going to be brutally cold with highs in the teens and below zero a couple nights.... brrrrrr!
We just go a trace of snow yesterday but my mom in Kansas and Son in Iowa got several inches. Like 12"! They even closed school in Iowa, which is very unusual ( it has to be DEEP there).
Being the first really cold snap since opening The Lake Lodge at Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, we are just praying everything (pipes) come through without any issues. I'm sure they will and we have prepared best we can, but its hard not to worry even though the bible tells you not to.... Matthew 6:25..... I'm working on that!
Grand Lake, Oklahoma, Tournament Results, Lake Level, Area Info
Got out on the water once last week. Wanted to get that first fish of 2024 caught! The lake level has still been hovering around 742.00. Pool is 744.00 so its a couple of feet down, which is normal for this time of year. The water temp was 46-49 degrees depending on where you are. Remember to take my report with a grain of salt, as I have not really been targeting fish.... I have been putting in at different parts of the lake and just putting the trolling motor down. I'm just trying to learn each and every creek and pocket until I have covered the whole lake. I fished the back of Honey Creek (above the bridge). Didn't catch a lot of fish but I did catch that first fish of '24 and it turned out to be a good one. A 3.1 pound Spotted Bass! Biggest Spotted Bass I have caught on Grand. But the biggest surprise to you all, if you know me, is that I caught it on a Damiki Rig, ON A SPINNING ROD! LOL Also caught a few on an Alabama Rig. I have a friend that has been catching them good on the A Rig. he had a 22 pound day the other day and caught a beast 7.2 over the weekend!
That wasn't the biggest thing I caught that day though.... look away if you're squeamish.....
Thank God for sharp hooks..... I stuck it in past the barb but not all the way through. I had to push it the rest of the way through. Then I didn't have enough strength in one hand to cut the hook. Was on my way to a friends house that lives on the lake so he could cut it, but flagged a couple fisherman down and they were able to cut it for me..... slid right out! My mom asked if I went back to fishing? I said "yes" and she said "of course you did, dumb question!" LOL
